When I was in education all the rage was technology in the classroom. The rage wasn't technology in general but rather hand held devices or palm pilots of some variety. Although I have been removed from a classroom for a couple of years now nothing has changed. PDA's do not aid in learning.
It is very easy to make the assumption that audio books are a recent invention because of the mention of CDs, downloadable digital formats, MP3s, PDAs and other technological jargons each time audio books are discussed. But audio books started a long time ago.
The first mobile learning workshop took place in Birmingham, UK in 2002 and the 6th International Mobile Learning Conference just concluded in Melbourne Australia. Having attended nearly every one of these and being involved in mobile learning is Australia is it interesting to reflect on how the conversation and focus has changed in that time.
Electronic or e-learning incorporates all forms of online instruction using electronic devices. Among the many branches of E-learning is m-learning or mobile learning, which is a natural extension of e-learning. M- Learning is facilitated by the use of portable computing devices, like PDAs, palmtops, smartphones, and tablet PCs.
Sometimes it is nice to stop and reflect on the journey that has taken us along the path of our lives.
