Blackberry 7XXX series shares many commonalities with Blackberry 6XXX series. As for Blackberry 6230, it is a tri-band GSM phone, whereas the 6210 is a dual-band phone. This difference is important to keep in mind if you are travel outside of the US often.

Blackberry 7230 screen is almost the same size as the 6210 and 6230 screens and the screen resolution is much better than its predecessors. It is assumed that you already have the unlock code for your Blackberry device. Interestingly, the procedure to unlock the 6XXX series and 7XXX series is almost the same with the exception of Blackberry 7100. However since Blackberry 7100 could not be covered in my article to input unlock code for 6XXX series Blackberries, we will detail the procedure for all 7 series here separately.

As with most other Blackberry models, start by selecting 'Options' menu. From Options select the SIM card menu. Type MEPD for all models listed in the title of this article EXCEPT for the 7100 series models. In case of 7100 series models, type MEPPD instead.

Please note that you will not see anything on the screen as you type MEPPD. At this point you will see "active" NET lock. In order to disable this lock, type MEP2 for all other 7 series phone except 7100. In case of 7100 Blackberry, type MEPP2 instead.

As a reminder, you must use the "alt" or "shift" key to enable numbers. As an example, this is what you would type m-e-p-"alt key"-2. Now you will be presented with a dialogue in which you can type the unlock code provided to you.

Once the unlock code is typed and the device is rebooted, your device should now be unlocked and it should be free to be used on any network with a SIM card from that particular network.

There have been reports of partial unlock in which case the unlocked device would work on certain networks, but not on others. In that case, a device unlock with a USB cable and relevant unlocking software could be the best solution.
