Although Sony only released its PSP (PlayStation Portable) in March of 2005, it has been updated with new accessories on almost a daily basis. The PSP is a small handheld device weighing just over half a pound, but packs the fullest punch for the audio-video enthusiast. Its capabilities include playing back music, movies, television shows, other saved or downloaded video clips, wireless Internet connection, and its primary purpose: video games in a portable system.

All this is available to users anytime of day or night and virtually anywhere. The most recent release accessory announced by Sony is the PSP camera. This comes as a joy to PSP users on the go all around the world looking to complete their micro entertainment center with the ability to not only view picture and videos, but actually take their own pictures and videos with their PSP.

The PSP camera was first announced at the E3 in Japan in March of 2006, where it also made its first public demo behind protective glass. The camera will don the name of Chotto Shot. Physically it is a small and seemingly basic camera lens about the size of the bottom half of your thumb that attaches to the top of the PSP system just above the screen. As if a camera attachment to the PSP would not be enough to complete this compact media center, the quick shot camera will also have a GPS attachment available. The camera is capable of delivering 1.3 megapixel image quality for the pictures as well as the video clips it captures.

Also included with the camera’s features is its digital zoom ability, allowing the user to bring the object of their photos closer than they can reach. A mono microphone will be included with this camera attachment to round out the extraordinary value of this extremely tiny little package. The microphone will capture the sounds to accompany video filming. And to protect your new addition, a protective carrying case is available. It’s incredible to think that in a handheld device as small as the PSP, you can have the ability to play countless games, connect to the Internet, view pictures, listen to music, watch movies and other videos, and now take pictures and movies.

The PSP camera and GPS attachment officially went on sale in Japan in December of 2006. The price tag was equivalent to a miniscule $50 U.S. for this incredible little bundle. As of March of 2007, Sony has not committed to a release date for the PSP camera in the United States. For this outstanding value, the release could not be soon enough.

With the constant upgrading of the PSP and the accessories available, Sony has truly created a portable handheld device capable of managing all things media. With the upcoming addition of the PSP camera to the line up of accessories, the capabilities extend as far as the galaxy reaches. The PSP system has taken entertainment, gaming, and media to a whole new world.

Big advances in video surveillance means easier and faster setup and use. Read up on the latest technology that transmits video surveillance information through standard house wiring.

Security cameras are a fact of life in today’s world. They’re everywhere — at the bank, in your employer’s office building, in stores, on streets, and in parking lots. Your opinion of security cameras is likely to depend on your personal experience with them.

For many, security cameras conjures up images of the time their car was vandalized in a “monitored” lot only to find that the camera wasn’t working. And, for those who have ever tried to set up a security camera surveillance system, the mere thought brings back feelings of frustration and confusion at how complex some systems are.

The good news is that they’ve come a long way since the 1960s and 70s. Security cameras were initially used by law enforcement and businesses to monitor high traffic areas and catch criminals in the act. In the late 1970s and early 80s, security cameras became more available for private and domestic use.

Today, new technologies have reduced the size of cameras from the large, boxy models used in the early days of video surveillance. Because most security cameras on the market today use digital technology, they are more reliable than the old videotape models. In addition, the systems are easier to set up than they once were.

Three exciting new technologies have the security camera industry all a-buzz. Security cameras are more versatile and powerful than ever.

The first is HomePlug technology, used to connect all the devices in the system to each other through a building’s power system. Through a HomePlug Adapter, users can actually plug the devices right into the electrical outlets, eliminating the need for any extra wires.

Systems that use this HomePlug technology are easier to set up than other models. The camera itself doesn’t need configuration, and there’s no need for wireless routers or networking equipment.

The second technology is called Universal Plug and Play (UPnP). UPnP makes it possible for a new security camera plug into a system and instantly communicate with other devices. They immediately have an IP address and tell other devices about their own capabilities. This means the cameras are ready to go in minutes.

UPnP makes it possible for users to control the resolution, recording schedules, and alerts for multiple cameras whether the cameras are indoors or outdoors.

The third technology involves Windows Media Video 9 encoding. Many cameras are being developed to work with this technology because it is an efficient and universal video compression tool. Cameras using Windows Media Video (wmv) format typically compress video to as much as 200 times smaller than the original size.

These compressed videos are then transmitted to your PC. With the right software in place, your PC becomes the video surveillance command center. Users can even set up email and cell phone alerts for remote access.

The world of video surveillance and security cameras has traveled light years since the early days. Thanks to this new technology, security cameras are now easy and affordable for the mainstream public. They’re widely available through a number of stores and on the Internet through web sites like, lukwerks.com, polarisusa.com, and skywaysecurity.com.

Glenn Frieboth, owner of GLC Enterprises, authors the latest in Surveillance news and is based in Illinois. Find the latest Surveillance Equipment at http://www.spygearco.com/VideoSurveillanceStarterKits-WL.htm

Learn why digital camera PDAs are conventient but may not give you the best pictures. Also find out how external digital cameras can be used with your existing PDA to give you better quality photos.

In recent years, PDAs (Personal Digital Assistants) have become increasingly available and more popular. There is now a wide range of products that come under this category, including devices that serve as little more than a glorified calendar and organizer, to top of the range tablets and “Palm PC’s”. Miniaturization has taken leaps and bounds as developments have progressed, and PDAs continue to grow more powerful. For some people, a PDA is something of a hobby, and the features, gimmicks, and novelties, whether they use them or not, are the most important part of the fun. More often, however, they are put to use in business, across almost every modern industry, at nearly every level, to varying degrees. PDAs now feature massive amounts of storage space, whether on-board, or via flash cards which keep growing in size, wireless networking, web browsing facilities, telephone-PDA hybrids, and ever more advanced software. One other feature that has raised some attention is the integration of digital cameras into Palm PCs.

Digital camera PDAs are not really intended for photography enthusiasts. They are intended more for people who depend upon and always carry their PDA. Integrating a camera into these versatile systems has so far been a matter of convenience and entertainment. The digital cameras combined with modern PDAs do not have particularly advanced camera features, and tend to be relatively poor in quality compared to a separately purchased digital camera. While a $200 digital camera may produce photographs at as high a resolution as 5, 6, or 7 “mega-pixels”, the cameras found aboard a similarly priced PDA will be less than half a mega-pixel, and even more expensive PDAs rarely boast a camera with a resolution as high as 2MP. Digital camera PDAs are not just a trivial toy, though, and have many useful applications. And of course, no-one ever knows just when they might need a camera.

The Hewlett Packard HW6515 iPAQ is a fully featured PDA featuring a 1.3MP camera, with an LED flash. PDA cameras often use a high powered LED rather than a conventional strobe because they use significantly less power. Unfortunately the intensity of the flash is also much lower, but using an LED is the most efficient tool for the job. In addition to its camera, the 6515 has a 312MHz Intel CPU, 320×240 TFT display, and 128 MB of on-board memory, of which, 55MB is available for to the user. It is Bluetooth enabled and has all common digital cell network compatibility (GPRS, GSM, EDGE.) Data cable is USB, and it uses Secure Digital removable media. It comes with a very full bundle of Microsoft mobile software, and runs the Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 (Phone Edition) Operating System. Weighing in at 5 ounces, it will set you back a little under $700.

If you are more interested in the camera capabilities themselves, then you will want to consider external cameras designed to be used in conjunction with an existing PDA. These offer much better camera quality, resulting in better image reproduction. Another 1.3MP PDA camera is the Lifeview Flycam. This small digital camera plugs into your existing PDA by way of the CF card attached to it. This is inserted directly into the CF slot of your tablet or PDA, and you have almost immediate camera functionality. It offers a few more features as a camera, and it is the camera aspect itself that is important to you, it makes a lot more sense to buy your PDA camera and PDA separately. As better PDA cameras are developed, you will be able to upgrade the camera without having to replace the whole PDA, which – as can be seen by the above example – can be quite an investment. The Flycam retails for as little as $130, making it a very appealing way to retrofit a camera to your PDA.

The HP Jornada is another retro-fitted PDA camera, also installed by way of an attached CF card. At a maximum resolution of only 640×480 (0.3MP), this camera retails for about $60. If you have an existing PDA, and have no desire to upgrade it yet, and you only need a simple camera, then this could well be the option for you. With an auto-focusing lens, this is a very easy camera to use, however, it will not appeal to more astute photographers. If all you want is to be able to take pictures of your friends whenever you want, then this is a great purchase.

Choosing a PDA camera is a matter of weighing up what you need. If you mostly just need a good camera, you are best off buying a normal digital camera, completely independent of your PDA. If it’s a PDA-camera hybrid you need, along with all the other functionality of a top shelf palmtop, and you can afford the considerable outlay, but you don’t need absolutely top notch photography, then consider an integrated option. If the idea of being able to swap the camera between different PDAs, and you like having the option of progressively upgrading as newer and better technology comes out, then you may wish to consider one of the retro-fitting options. They’re an ingenious solution that promises to stay within budget, and allows you to upgrade at will.
